INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2026

International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8th March, provides an important opportunity for the global community to recognize the achievements, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women and girls in shaping societies and advancing sustainable development.

On this significant occasion, the Congress for Sustainable Development of Nigeria (CSDN) proudly joins the international community in celebrating women across Nigeria, Africa, and the world. We acknowledge the remarkable roles women play in governance, education, economic development, peacebuilding, and community transformation.

The 2026 theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls" calls for renewed global commitment to protecting women’s rights, ensuring justice, and taking meaningful actions that promote gender equality and empowerment.

The global campaign “Give to Gain” further reminds us that investing in women and girls ultimately strengthens families, communities, and nations.

International Women's Day

Across Nigeria and Africa, women continue to demonstrate extraordinary leadership and courage, whether in public service, entrepreneurship, academia, agriculture, science, or grassroots community development. Nigerian women and girls are not only contributors to national progress but also key drivers of sustainable development across the continent and the globe.

CSDN therefore calls on governments, institutions, and communities to intensify efforts toward:

Promoting equal opportunities for women and girls

Eliminating discrimination and gender-based violence

Expanding access to education, healthcare, and leadership spaces

Supporting policies that empower women economically and socially

As an organization committed to sustainable development, CSDN recognizes that gender equality is fundamental to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal of building peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of Nigerian women and girls, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women across Africa and the world.

Happy International Women’s Day 2026.

*Together, let us advance rights, justice, and action for all women and girls.*
