CSDN appoints Dr Limota Goroso Giwa as Matron

 Dr. Limota Goroso Giwa is a prominent Nigerian grassroots organizer, women’s rights activist, and researcher focused on gender, HIV, and urban development. She serves as the Executive Director of the International Women Communication Centre and is a Convener of the Urban Thinkers Project of UN-Habitat in Nigeria. She has also served on the Governing Council of the Huairou Commission.

Her recent academic contributions include:

Dr. Giwa’s PhD research at the University of Huddersfield examined HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in polygamous Muslim societies, reflecting her strong expertise in gender and health. Through her grassroots leadership, she supports over 75,000 women in climate resilience, food security, and water conservation initiatives, while actively advocating policy reforms on gender-based violence, anti-corruption, and inclusive governance.



Her recognitions include nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize (2005), the UNDP Equator Prize (2017), the Ashoka Fellowship (2001), the UNIFEM Award (2003), and the Hirkani Award (2020).

On 25th February 2026, she was appointed as Matron of the Congress for Sustainable Development of Nigeria (CSDN), in recognition of her outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment, sustainable development, and community transformation.
